Lots of people in the press are saying nice things about the record! Here’s a selection:
‘God Help The Girl is both incredibly simple and deceptively complex: the end results are surprisingly timeless, bringing to mind Twenties’ musicals, fifties’ jazz, 60s girl groups and shambling eighties’ indie’ Music Week
‘an expansive, eclectic set of classic pop . . .further confirms Murdoch as one of the finest songwriters of his era’ Record Collector
‘fans of chamber pop, Motown, the Lovin’ Spoonful and the Mamas and Papas will find much to cherish’ Mojo
‘a precious antidote to an overdose of earnest, bearded Men in Rock these past few years’ Plan B
‘a spry Bacharach swing encompassing Pearly Spencer style 60s production pop’ The Guardian
‘the elements that make Belle and Sebastian so precious are here in Murdoch’s storytelling panache and encapsulation of outsiderdom’ Attitude
‘if Murdoch’s early woek evoked Felt working on a Bill Forsyth movie, God Help The Girl_ is something like The Zombies scoring Hal Hartley.’ Uncut

all good stuff, you must giggle though at the way they try an pidgeon hole the whole thing in a couple of sentences,like…..i suppose its their job to be short and consise…the zombies, bacarach, mama`s and papa`s….all nice reference points…………..

all music in some way builds on the past… comparisons pop up in reviews all the time… but it really shines and stands out when it comes through on it’s own… i felt that with this record… listening to it every day… it’s a stellar set of songs… and it really grows on you… thank you for the music…

oh,it wasn`t a go sunil as i`m sure most fans of this project an mr murdoch in particular wouldn`t try an hit him in the pocket….myself,i haven`t subscibed yet but i will do as a little birthday present to meself…it was more to do with artists quite openly embrace people downloading(legally or illegally)…i tend to wait until the actual vinyl comes out(although i couldn`t wait for the camera obscura album)i didn`t burn it just listened a few times, ended up buying it twice on vinyl…err don`t take it as a personal attack,i suppose i shouldn`t have quoted you….sorry

oh yep,i forgot the point i was making, camera obscura`s single sailed in at number 32 in the charts, the band were asking the fans not to“steal their music”…most people i think either usually buy if they want the artifact an collect this stuff or just download if they have no“loyalty“to the specific band, they may enjoy it for nothing then go and catch the band live“hopefully”…..its all usually good for the band….

I really miss Belle and Sebastian. This album is brilliant, Stuart Murdoch for me is one of the best storyteller’s ever. I cant stop playing it. Will there be a tour?
