Question
So there’s been some talk about the Come Monday Night video, specifically that image at 3.54 of Celia leaning over the balcony. You see I’m a bit of a fan of cityscapes, streetscapes, maps and vistas in general. Sootyzilla, JOHN, Rucola and I were wondering just where that has been taken from. Can you help us?
Best wishes

Answer
i don’t know if it will mean much to you out there in auckland, but that shot was taken from the flagpole in ruchill park, in the north of glasgow. it’s the point in the city which i think provides the best 360 view, unless perhaps you climb the university tower.

Question
I’ve been listening to the digital version, on the subscription, for a couple of weeks. I absolutely love the variety and color of the female vocals. I’d been particularly vexed by the voice on “I Just Want Your Jeans” because I thought the singer sounded an awful lot like Asya from Smoosh which IS who it is. How did you come to work with her? I think she has an intriguing voice and it works so beautifully on that song as well as on “A Down and Dusky Blonde.”
Answer
I was looking for a singer to ‘voice’ the younger character of cassie, and my wife suggested Asya. Marisa had been touring with eels a few years ago selling merchandise, and smoosh had been the support act, so she got to know them at that time.
Asy came over and recorded ‘jeans’ live with the band, three exemplary takes i think it was, then sang ‘down and dusky blonde’ on which we used her version for two verses.
i can’t wait to hear new smoosh stuff when it comes out!

Question
Hey Stuart
Had the album for a while now on subscription and it is the best thing I have heard for many a long while. However, and please
understand this an observation not a complaint,do you think there is a danger of some people thinking of it as a ‘girls’ album? Some friends at work have said that very thing (and they are female)and I notice that the GHTG t shirt is only available as a ladies. Personally,I don’t care a jot but some people like the old pigeon hole….
Answer
hi stephen
to be honest, i had rather feared it would be taken the other way, and be the sort of record that only a certain kind of indie boy would look at! but my wife and catherine, celia and alex (CCA) are trying to convince me that i need to TRY and sell it to women.
i would much rather people just came to it naturally of course. just for you we will speed through the plans for a man’s shirt. do you still want the same design?
best

Question
Dear Stuart,
I’m all excited because I got my copy of the album yesterday – not the hard back book edition though, I couldn’t find it here. Anyway, could you tell Catherine that she has one of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard? Maybe I’m too sensitive but the beauty of her voice brought tears to my eyes.
Another question: being a huge fan of The Divine Comedy, I’m very happy Neil took part in the project. When did he get involved? Was it easy to convince him to be part of it?

Answer
it was pretty easy, i think he usually has a nice time when he comes to glasgow. i think the timing was good for him, before he got too busy..

Question
I love the single and Musician, Please Take Heed- I’m currently saving all my dole pennies for the subscription package!
But my questions are- you’ve said that you would rather work with lesser know actors, but if you could get any older, classic actors (dead or alive) to star in God Help The Girl, who would it be?
Also, will you yourself have a role in the film, or merely a Hitchcock-esque cameo?

Answer
woah, i had to go and make myself a cup of tea and have a think about this one.. infact i might have to take the afternoon to think about it.
i doubt i’ll do the hitchcock thing, it’s a bit naff.
